), a leading provider of mobile and wireless solutions for the mobile workforce, announced today a partnership for the marketing and distribution of Centura's suite of end-to-end mobile computing solutions via Symbol's new Software e-Commerce Website (http://software.symbol.com). Through Symbol's Software Developer Partner program the two companies will jointly allow customers to web- and wireless-enable their enterprise applications, extend these applications for use on handheld devices, and store important information on the devices using an embedded database (1) Database software that is included with an application rather than offered as a separate database management system (see DBMS). Symbol's sales team will promote Centura's suite of end-to-end enterprise solutions in combination with Symbol's wireless Information Appliances and Spectrum24 (RF) network, targeting customers in field and sales force automation Automating the sales activities within an organization. A comprehensive SFA package provides such functions as contact management, note and information sharing, quick proposal and presentation generation, product configurators, calendars and to-do lists. , mobile health, insurance and inventory maintenance markets. With Centura's COM/DCOM support, the mobile worker will be able to access the same applications from a Symbol handheld device that were traditionally reserved for the PC. Centura solutions will ensure the security of the entire process -- from the backend to the handheld.
