Centura Launches M/I/S Station; First Web-based Information Service for Developers to Migrate, Integrate and Scale Applications to the Web.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1997--Centura Software Corporation (NASDAQ: CNTR) today announced availability of the ForeSite M/I/S Station. The M/I/S Station is a Web-based information system that assists developers in migrating new and legacy applications to the Web using the ForeSite 2.0 product suite. ForeSite is an extensible Integration Server for deploying Web applications. Centura's M/I/S Station can be accessed via www.centurasoft.mis-station.com .

The M/I/S Station offers assistance to customers as they Migrate, Integrate and Scale applications to the Web. It provides real-world advice and examples on migrating new and legacy applications to the Web, integrating them with Web content and deploying them in a scaleable environment. Applications built with Sybase's PowerBuilder, Microsoft's Visual Basic, Borland's Delphi, COBOL, C++ and 3270 can be migrated to the Web with ForeSite. According to IDC, these tools and languages represent 62 percent of a typical organization's installed base of applications.

The M/I/S station is a collaborative effort between Centura, its partners and customers. The result is a series of customer application examples, design recommendations, development guidelines and deployment goals that provide advice for Web application development and deployment. The following customers and partners have participated in the M/I/S station to date:

-- Leopard Systems, Richardson, Texas, is showcasing a PowerBuilder catalog application migrated to the Web with ForeSite. Available at the M/I/S Station is a white paper contributed by Leopard, which outlines the ForeSite method for moving legacy PowerBuilder applications to the Web.

-- SpaceWorks, Dallas, Texas, is showcasing on the M/I/S Station an order-management application suite, including CustomerManager and OrderManager products that can utilize the migration, integration and scalability benefits of ForeSite when Web-enabling a company's order management systems using existing data sources.

-- Vaughan/Caudle, Dallas, Texas, is showcasing a PowerBuilder catalog application they migrated to the Web with ForeSite.

As customers and partners continue to access the power of ForeSite, Centura will continue to add these experiences to the M/I/S Station. In addition, experience gained by Centura's Professional Services Organization as they migrate C++, Visual Basic and other legacy applications to the Web will also be available at the introduction of the M/I/S Station.

-- How to use features and options with various popular page or content generation tools effectively

-- Tips for accomplishing specific tasks on the Web

The M/I/S Station assists developers in making applications deployed on the Web that weren't intended to be scaleable. It offers the following information on scalability:

-- How to tune client/server and mainframe applications for the Web

-- Examples and working code samples that implement the suggestions offered in the above processes
