Centrifugal Sifters Are Boon to Plastics Grinder.

Centrifugal sifters provide the mobility and quick screen changes required by a large supplier of custom plastics size-reduction services. CTSP Corp. in Belle Mead, N.J., offers ambient and cryogenic grinding, jet pulverizing, screening, and blending. The firm uses caster-mounted centrifugal sifters measuring 2.5 x 5 ft. They can be moved to different processing rooms in the plant, unlike rectangular shaker screeners, which require heavy steel support stands, says sales and marketing manager Craig Davis. CTSB's centrifugal sifters, built by Kason Corp., Millburn, N.J., also allow screen changes to be performed in less than 20 min. "This compares with more than an hour to remove and comb through eight to 12 rectangular screens of a shaker-type screener," Davis says.

Kason's Centri-Sifter units have rotating helical paddles inside the horizontal, cylindrical screen basket. The paddles impart centrifugal force to propel particles against and through the screen. By recycling the oversized particles back to the grinding system, CTSB typically obtains 97-99% conversion to usable powder.
