Centre to host Reith Lecture.


THE Centre for Life in Newcastle has been chosen to host the third of this year's four BBC BBC
 in full British Broadcasting Corp.

Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927.
 Radio 4 Reith Lectures A Reith Lecture is a lecture in a series of annual radio lectures given by leading figures of the day, commissioned by the BBC and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. They were begun in 1948, in honour of the first Director-General of the BBC, John Reith.  by Michael Sandel Michael Sandel (1953-) is a contemporary political philosopher and the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor of Government at Harvard University. Education
Sandel graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University in 1975, and received his doctorate from Balliol College at
, Professor of Government at Harvard University.

The other three lectures will be delivered in London, Oxford and Washington DC.

Prof Sandel's lecture series is entitled A New Citizenship and his Newcastle lecture will be called Genetics and Morals.

Linda Conlon, chief executive of the Centre for Life, said: "The decision to broadcast from Newcastle reflects well on the city and underlines its reputation as a leader in the field of genetics and the life sciences." The lecture has proved popular with the public allocation of tickets all taken up. But Centre for Life staff advise keeping an eye on the website www.life.org.uk..
