Centre to establish speedy trial courts in provinces to counter terrorism.


PESHAWAR, November 17, 2009 (Frontier Star): Federal Government has decided to establish speedy trial The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees all persons accused of criminal wrongdoing the right to a speedy trial. Although this right is derived from the federal Constitution, it has been made applicable to state criminal proceedings through the U.S.  courts for elimination of terrorism and to start legal proceedings All actions that are authorized or sanctioned by law and instituted in a court or a tribunal for the acquisition of rights or the enforcement of remedies.  against terrorists arrested from Malakand and tribal areas Tribal Areas can refer to:
  • Federally Administered Tribal Areas in Pakistan
  • Provincially Administered Tribal Areas also in Pakistan
  • Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council in India

. Sources told this agency here on Tuesday that in a recent high level meeting of officers from four Provinces it was decided that that speedy trial courts should be established for legal proceedings against terrorists. Participants were also told that several cases are in court for hearing while some times this process is too slow which creates serious problems and till the verdict against them these terrorists could not be shifted to other place. All the participants agreed with this suggestion and insisted that complete or incomplete challans against these terrorists should be presented before courts with in fourteen days. They said that several steps should also be ensured to record statements of witnesses. Sources also told Ministry of Interior would prepare the draft of these speedy trial courts in few days and send it to Ministry of Law. Judges of these speedy trial courts would be equal to High Court Judge. These courts would complete the proceedings of cases within one month and only one appeal would be filed against the verdict of these courts. Sources also told that following the article 164 of Anti Terrorism act The Terrorism Act may refer to legislation in various countries: South Africa

  • Prevention of Terrorism Acts passed between 1974 and 1989 to deal with terrorism in Northern Ireland
 presence of criminals would not be necessary for confession statement before Magistrate. SP or any other officer equal to it would also record Confession statement of criminals.
