Centre asks states to provide details for modernisation of police forces.

New Delhi, July 14 (ANI): The Union Government today asked the States to provide details of their requirements for the modernisation of the State Police in their Annual Action Plans, so that the Central Government could help them.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs M. Ramchandran said in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour that states have been asked to give there details of residential, non-residential police buildings, vehicles, equipment, weapons etc., in their Annual Action Plans for the State under the Modernization of State Police force Scheme (MPF Scheme).

Ramchandran said the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR and D) had a discussion with Police Commissioners of various states in order to prepare perspective plans for mega city policing.

The Union Home Ministry has taken up the modernisation of state police forces under the Mega City policing project. The sub scheme prepared by the BPR and D would address needs like close circuit television (CCTV), surveillance monitoring system based on intelligent camera, and also the requirements of existing and proposed Special Forces, Ramchandran said.

Ramchandran also informed the house that the sub scheme would also address requirements relating to the guarding of sensitive installations.

The Ministry of Home has asked the BPR and D to draw the outlines to make the Mega City Police to be preparing to face the eventualities like organised crimes, terrorism and other security challenges. (ANI)
