Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. St.  has a host of major new facilities under development that are sure to be popular with a variety of groups and events. Probably the most significant development is the $23 million Tampa Bay Amphitheatre now under construction at Tampa's Florida State Fairgrounds The Florida State Fairgrounds is located in Tampa, Florida. In addition to holding the annual Florida State Fair, the fairgrounds also hosts a wide variety of other events throughout the year.

The fairgrounds cover over 355 acres, with many different types of buildings.
 just seven miles east of downtown. The open-air venue will feature nearly 10,000 fixed seats under a translucent fabric roof and an uncovered grassy area with space for about 10,000 more.

Busch Gardens Busch Gardens is the name of two amusement parks in the United States owned and operated by Busch Entertainment Corporation, a division of Anheuser-Busch. One of the parks is in Williamsburg, Virginia and the other is in Tampa, Florida.  Tampa Bay recently opened the Gwazi Pavillion, a private, 7,000-square-foot facility with an African theme. Strategically located to allow guest access from outside the 350-acre park, the climate-controlled pavilion offers theater-style lighting and noise elimination insulation.

The Tampa Convention Center The Tampa Convention Center is a mid-sized convention center located in Downtown Tampa, Florida. Its location is ideal because it has both waterfront views, and views of the skyline.  is fresh from a $5.9 million upgrade that doubled its total meetings rooms to 36. The water-front facility also added 28 boat slips that allow delegates to embark on sailing excursions and fishing charters from the center. In 2002, the center opened a fine-dining, full-service restaurant, multiple "convention cafes," and a new business center. The center offers a 200,000-square-foot exhibit hall and a 36,000-square-foot ballroom.

Several new facilities also have debuted in recent years in the area surrounding the center, including the 717-room Tampa Marriott Waterside and Channelside, a sprawling entertainment and retail complex that is adjacent to Tampa's bustling cruise ship terminal.

Opening this summer is the 293-room Renaissance Hotel at International Plaza International Plaza may refer to:

  • the International Plaza and Bay Street in Tampa, Florida, United States
 that will offer 12,000 square feet of meeting space. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino off Interstate 4 will complete its phased development this spring. The Hard Rock, which opened about half of its casino space last June, features 90,000 square feet of gaming space, a 250-room hotel, 10 restaurants, and more than 10,000 square feet of conference space, including an 8,000-square-foot ballroom.

A flurry of hotel activity in St. Petersburg/Clearwater is adding to a hotel room inventory that already exceeds 30,000. Opening late this year is the $25 million Hilton St. Petersburg at Carillon carillon, in music: see bell.

The 390-room Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater also recently added Wi-Fi throughout all guest rooms and its 25,000 square feet of meeting space. All guest rooms were remodeled and its Mainstay Tavern was completely renovated as part of the resort's three-year, multimillion-dollar upgrade. The region's land-mark pink castle, the Don CeSar The Don Cesar is a Loews hotel located in St. Pete Beach, Florida, in the United States. The hotel was built by Thomas Rowe at a cost of $1.2 million. Construction began in 1925, and the hotel opened on January 16, 1928.  Beach Resort & Spa, joined the Loews Hotel Group in December. The 333-room Hilton St. Petersburg is undergoing a $1 million renovation to its two ballrooms and other public spaces. Other $8.5 million renovation of the TradeWinds Island Resorts and the $4 million renovation of the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club.

The 231,000-square-foot Bayfront Center in downtown St. Petersburg gives groups plenty of event options. The multifaceted complex houses several entertainment and meeting facilities. Among them is the Times Bayfront Arena The Bayfront Center was an indoor arena in St. Petersburg, Florida. It hosted the ABA's The Floridians when the team played in St. Petersburg. Prior to the Floridians the Bayfront Center Arena was home ice for the Suncoast Suns of the Eastern Hockey League and then Southern Hockey , which has 23,500 square feet of exhibit space and can seat 8,140 people. The Coliseum, built in 1924, also can seat 2,000 for banquets or concerts.
