Central City News: Chance to see Brum through the ages; HISTORY.


THE changing face of Birmingham will be the subject of a special slide show being held in the city next week.

The one-night presentation will feature more than 250 images of the area and aims to highlight the huge transformation the city has gone through in recent decades.

 A Walk Through Birmingham City Centre - Back in Time, will be held at the new Radisson Hotel, in Holloway Circus, on Thursday from 7.30pm, and is open to anyone with an interest in local history.

The black and white and colour digital images have all been specially selected from the archives of Birmingham historian and Mail columnist Carl Chinn Professor Carl Stephen Alfred Chinn MBE (born 6 September, 1956) is a historian, writer, radio presenter, magazine editor, newspaper columnist, media personality, local celebrity, and famous Brummie, whose working life has been devoted to the study and popularisation of the city of .

And they will be accompanied by a talk by local history enthusiast A person who enjoys using computers and electronic equipment. Enthusiasts like technology and are willing to learn more of the ins and outs of a product than the average consumer, who just wants to use it. An enthusiast is more like a "prosumer." See consumer and prosumer.  Keith Clenton, a member of Dr Chinn's volunteer team.

He said the display would open people's eyes to the extent of change the city has gone through.

"Birmingham has change a lot since the war," he said.

"It was always an industrial city but there has been a lot of modernisation.

"The shopping areas, the canal, the Bullring have all totally changed in the last 30 years and I think people will be interested to see how they used to look."
