Central City Association Endorses Candidates for March Primary.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2003

The Central City Association (CCA (1) (Common Cryptographic Architecture) Cryptography software from IBM for MVS and DOS applications.

) today announced its slate of candidates for the March 2003 primary election.

CCA endorses the following candidates for City Council:

2nd Council District: Wendy Greuel Wendy Greuel is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 2nd District. Greuel was elected in 2002 to fill the remainder of the term of Councilman Joel Wachs. She was elected in her own right in 2003 and reelected in 2007.  

4th Council District: Tom LaBonge Tom LaBonge (b. Los Angeles 1953), member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 4th district. He has served since 2001, taking over the position upon the death of John Ferraro.  

6th Council District: Tony Cardenas Tony Cardenas served in the California State Assembly. In the Assembly, he had the powerful position of chair of the Budget Committee. He is now a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing the 6th district, which includes parts of the San Fernando Valley.  

8th Council District: Bernard Parks

10th Council District: Duel-endorsement - Deron Williams & Rod Wright

12th Council District: Greig Smith

14th Council District: Nick Pacheco

In the past few months, CCA conducted a comprehensive interview and endorsement process where candidates were questioned on issues of importance to CCA, the Downtown community and the greater Los Angeles business community.

Council Members LaBonge and Greuel are running for re-election, having been elected just last year to finish out the incomplete terms of Council legends John Ferraro and Joel Wachs, respectively. "Both Tom LaBonge and Wendy Greuel serve their districts well and have accomplished quite a bit in a short time," said Carol E. Schatz, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CCA. "They both represent what is best about Los Angeles."

In 2003, veteran members who cannot run for re-election due to term limits will vacate To annul, set aside, or render void; to surrender possession or occupancy.

The term vacate has two common usages in the law. With respect to real property, to vacate the premises means to give up possession of the property and leave the area totally devoid of contents.
 Council Districts 6 and 12. CCA interviewed various candidates in each race before selecting Cardenas and Smith. "CCA has worked closely with these candidates in the past and we believe they have the experience and knowledge to hit the ground running in the City Council".

The 8th Council District was recently vacated by veteran Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas, who was elected to the State Assembly. CCA believes that former LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
2. LAPD - Los Angeles Police Department.
 Chief Parks has experience working in the community and in City government, which will make him an excellent City Council member. In Council District 10, CCA voted to duel-endorse both former Nate Holden aid, Deron Williams and former State Assembly member, Roderick Wright. "Sometimes it is tough to pick a single candidate when a race has abundant talent. District 10 is such a race," stated Schatz.

CCA also recently voted to endorse incumbent Nick Pacheco, who's Council District 14 includes portions of Downtown. Schatz stated "In the past, we have worked successfully with Nick Pacheco on many issues of interest to Downtown. We recently unveiled a new Development Strategy for the Central City and we expect to work closely with the Councilmember in the future to make Downtown's Historic Core a vibrant 24-hour residential and mixed-use community."

In LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  school board races, CCA elected to endorse three incumbents in critical races, including Caprice Young, Genethia Hundley-Hayes, and David Tokofsky. "The school board has a huge impact on the quality of life in the City. We believe these Board of Education members are making headway in improving our schools and reforming the district," said Schatz.

The Central City Association, which represents more than 300 businesses, trade associations and non-profits employing over 250,000 people, is LA's premier business advocacy association. CCA, through its advocacy, is devoted to promoting the health and vitality of Los Angeles as an economic engine, particularly its Downtown.
