Central Asia Acquires Ground Near Valsilkovskoe.TORONTO Toronto (tərŏn`tō), city (1998 est pop. 2,400,000), provincial capital, S Ont., Canada, on Lake Ontario. Corporation is pleased to announce that the government of Kazakstan has granted it and its 50/50 Kazakstan joint venture partner, an exploration licence measuring 6,700 sq. km. (1.7 million acres) in the vicinity of the well known Vasilkovskoe major gold deposit in north-eastern Kazakstan. The northern boundary of the licence is located 2 km. south of Vasilkovskoe. The licence covers the southern and eastern strike continuation of the main ore controlling structures of the Valsilkovskoe deposit as well as similar parallel features hosting gold occurrences. The Vasilkovskoe deposit contains over 138 millions tonnes grading 3.03 grams gold/tonne representing over 13 millions ounces of gold. The Company is also in negotiations to acquire a 50 percent interest in the adjoining licence to the west which includes all the ground between the new licence and the Kokshetau Kokshetau (, Kökshetau; also known as Kokchetav) is the administrative center of Akmola Province, northern Kazakhstan. It has a population of 123,400 (1997 census). The name of the city established in 1824 means "sky-coloured mountain". licence currently held by the Company. The addition of the new Vasilkovskoe licence brings Central Asia's land holdings in Kazakstan to over 44,000 sq. km. (11 million acres). A major drill program is scheduled for this summer to test numerous previously defined gold targets.
