Centillium's first release of eXtremeDSL technology includes two features. The eXtremeReach(TM) feature allows service providers to increase the ADSL coverage area per central office. With this feature, the total addressable Reachable. When something is addressable, it can be identified and manipulated independently of its surroundings. For example, screen pixels and RAM memory are addressable. Each of the screen's picture elements can be individually turned on and off, and each of the memory's bytes can be  ADSL market will increase, resulting in greater revenue opportunities for equipment vendors and service providers. This breakthrough technology allows service providers to offer broadband services and applications to subscribers in rural areas that, until today, were too far from central offices to receive service.

The eXtremeRate(TM) feature offers downstream rates exceeding 10 Mbps. This performance enables providers to offer bundled services based on different data rates.

The eXtemeDSL technology is specifically adapted to the unique metallic loop conditions of the networks they are deployed in, including cable types and the crosstalk noise environment. The increase in the downstream reach and data rate is achieved while protecting the valuable upstream data rate. eXtremeDSL technology for Japan operates based on the ADSL G.dmt Annex C.

"The next frontier for the ADSL market is to use broadband access See broadband and wireless broadband.  to offer a variety of new and exciting applications and services," said Dori Braun, vice president of marketing, Access Business Unit for Centillium Communications.
