FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 5, 2000

Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTLM CTLM Imaging Computed tomography laser mammography A diagnostic technique using lasers to produce a 3-D cross-sectional image of the breast without x-rays. See Mammography. ), innovator of broadband communications technology, announced today availability of Full Rate Annex C Asymmetric DSL (ADSL See DSL.

Centillium's chipsets are the industry's first and only to conform to the ADSL G.dmt (ITU-T See ITU.

This type of wiring creates very challenging technical issues for ADSL in order to co-exist with Japanese Integrated Services Digital Network Integrated services digital network (ISDN)

). Centillium's Annex C implementation supports both FBM (Far End Cross Talk Bit-Map) and DBM (Dual Bit-Map) implementations for handling ISDN cross-talk noise -- a feature specifically requested by CLECs in Japan and required by NTT. As the only ADSL chipset vendor with both FBM and DBM technology, Centillium is able to offer full downstream data rates of 8Mbps and upstream rates of up to 1Mbps.

"Since early 1999, network equipment makers in Asia have chosen Centillium's CopperLite chipset. It is the only ADSL solution that has been deployed by NTT and CLECs in Japan, both on the CO and the CPE sides of the network," said Al Gharakhanian, director of network access products, Centillium Communications, Inc. "With the addition of the Annex C Full Rate ADSL solutions, our customers are now able to provide the higher bit rate services demanded by some of their clients."

Centillium's CopperFlite CO chipset is a fully programmable multi-mode ADSL transceiver that consumes less than 1 watt of power. CopperFlite uses just two chips to deliver all of the integrated silicon and software needed to design low-power ADSL line cards with four ports.

Centillium's Universal Flite Optimizer CPE chipset delivers a complete multi-mode ADSL modem with just two chips, significantly reducing the form factor, power usage, component count, and bill of material costs normally associated with broadband access devices. The Optimizer chipset features highly integrated Universal Serial Bus See USB.
