Centigram's Series 6 Selected For VoiceStream Wireless Nationwide PCS Rollout; First Implementation of VoiceStream Wireless Offers PCS Enhanced Messaging Services to Hawaiian Subscribers.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1996--Centigram Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: CGRM), a leading global provider of communications solutions, today announced that VoiceStream Wireless, Western Wireless' brand name for Personal Communications Services (PCS), has chosen Centigram's Series 6 communications server to provide advanced integrated voice, fax and data messaging to its PCS subscribers in Honolulu; Albuquerque, N.M.; Denver; Des Moines, Iowa; Oklahoma City; Portland, Ore.; and Salt Lake City.

Series 6 provides advanced features to enhance users' communications on PCS subscribers' feature-rich, new-generation wireless telephones. VoiceStream Wireless will offer PCS to wireless subscribers in seven U.S. markets.

Using Centigram's "hands-free wireless" application, VoiceStream subscribers can retrieve messages by pressing only one key on their hand-held displays. Centigram's Short Message Services, integrated with the SEMA Short Message Service Center, send callback numbers to VoiceStream Wireless subscribers and allow them to receive a count of voice and fax messages on their wireless hand-held displays.

Other applications that the company plans to offer this year include outcalls to subscribers with unplayed messages when they turn on their handsets, predefined text messages such as "call home" or "call office" delivered to subscribers' handset displays, and the ability for the caller to transfer to a subscriber's personal assistant from their PCS number.

Centigram's Series 6 platform provides full interoperability with, and integration to, VoiceStream Wireless' other network devices. Series 6 connects to the network with Signaling System 7 (SS7) and T-1. A TCP/IP wide-area integration is used for short messaging. The PCS implementations for VoiceStream Wireless are being performed by VoicePlus, Inc., a Centigram distributor and systems integrator, and are expected to be completed in all VoiceStream Wireless regions by September.
