Centex Construction Company Partners With the Center for Multicultural Human Services to Impact Lives.

The Mid-Atlantic division of Centex Construction Company, in an effort to impact the lives of children in Northern Virginia, announces its selection of a community partner.

The Center for Multicultural Human Services (CMHS), located in Falls Church, Va., and Centex will work together to make a difference in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Centex will support CMHS, helping the organization accomplish its mission while encouraging employees to volunteer in their neighboring communities.

The Center for Multicultural Human Services is a non-profit mental health and social services agency serving low-income, immigrant children and families with cultural and language barriers in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area.

Comprised of a culturally diverse staff able to provide services in 27 languages, CMHS was named this year's "Outstanding Non-profit Organization" by Leadership Fairfax, Inc. in recognition of the leadership role it has played in developing and implementing services for an increasingly multicultural community.

For the past three consecutive years, its Multicultural Volunteer Program has won regionwide recognition as Outstanding Volunteer Program and for excellent service to the immigrant and refugee community by individual CMHS volunteers.

Together, Centex and CMHS will work together to touch the lives of children. "Centex set out to develop a partnership with a community-based organization that reflected our company's values and afforded Centex employees and their families an enriching experience through volunteering," said Centex Vice President David Birtwistle. "CMHS easily met all of our criteria and is a special service provider."

So far in this endeavor, the two organizations have partnered on such activities as a puppet drive for the CMHS play therapy room, a cookout for a teen camping trip and holiday gift donations for less fortunate families. The next scheduled event is a hiking trip for teenagers.

Centex was recently recognized by the Washington Business Journal and Greater D.C. Cares as a business that gives back significantly to the community.
