Centex Construction Company Awarded Two New Contracts.

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2002

The Mid Atlantic Division of Centex Construction Company announced it has been selected to provide construction services for two new construction contracts totaling over $130 million; the E. Barrett Prettyman Courthouse Annex and Renovation in Washington, D.C., with a construction value over $100 million, and the F-22 Facilities project at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., with a construction value of approximately $32 million.

Located three blocks from the U.S. Capitol at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues, the E. Barrett Prettyman Courthouse Annex and Renovation project will include the construction of a new 350,000-square-foot annex and selected renovation to the existing historic courthouse.

The new annex will be constructed first and will include nine courtrooms, 19 judges' chambers and support offices for the U.S. Courts for the District of Columbia Circuit. The main entrance to the annex will contain the public lobby and connecting atrium/rotunda to the existing courthouse building. The existing building will be occupied throughout construction of the new annex.

After substantial completion of the new annex, the annex, and selected portions of the existing building, will be occupied by the courts during renovations to the existing buildings.

The U.S. General Services Administration selected Centex Construction Company for this project through a best value procurement. Graves/SmithGroup of Washington, D.C., is the architect for the courthouse project, which broke ground on Apr. 8. Construction completion for the annex is scheduled for mid-2004; construction completion for the total project is scheduled for fall 2005.

With the U.S. Air Force's decision to base the first operational wing of F-22 stealth fighter jets at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., came the need for the construction of aircraft hangars and related facilities to maintain the 72 primary and six backup aircraft.

Centex Construction Company is the general contractor of the 275,000-square-foot facility, consisting of a Squadron Operations / AMU (aircraft maintenance unit) six-bay hangar for the new F-22 stealth fighter jets (with a potential option for two additional hangars), an airfield lighting vault, a fire pump house and a low observable composite repair facility.

The U.S. Air Force selected Centex Construction Company for this project through a best value procurement. Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company of Kansas City, Mo., is the architect-engineer of the project, which broke ground Apr. 8. Construction completion is scheduled in spring 2004.
