The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has awarded Centex Construction Company - Mid Atlantic Mid Atlantic can mean:

 a contract valued at more than $60 million for construction of the Addition to Andrew T. McNamara Building Defense Threat Reduction Center (DTRC DTRC David Taylor Research Center (US Navy)

) in Fort Belvoir Fort Belvoir is a United States military installation and a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 7,176 at the 2000 census. , Va. The contract includes the construction of a blast resistant building addition, a parking structure and associated site work on a secured compound.

The building will include a 325,000-square-foot, six-story (four floors above ground and two basement levels) structural steel addition featuring a precast pre·cast

, brick and curtainwall facade. Centex will be working in and around a fully functioning facility during construction, eventually tying into the existing building. The scope of work also includes the interior fit-out of the building: core interiors, finishes and office space.

The parking structure will include a 300,000-square-foot, three-level precast parking structure designed to accommodate 1,000 vehicles for use by employees and visitors. Site work will include access drives to the parking structure, storm water management and landscaping. The project is slated for completion in August 2005.

The mission of DTRA is to reduce the present threat to the United States and it allies from weapons of mass destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. Weapons of mass destruction can be high explosives or nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological weapons, but exclude the means of transporting or  and prevent future threats. The new building (DTRC) will consolidate functions currently being accomplished in five buildings into one location.
