Grim Budget, Complex Problems, Increasing Demands Challenge Capacity of Teaching Force

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning will release California's Teaching Force 2008 for publication and broadcast on Wednesday, December 10, 2008.

 report provides the latest available data on the supply, qualifications and distribution of the state's teaching workforce, and measures the progress that California has made toward ensuring that the state's lowest achieving schools have fair access to fully prepared and effective teachers.

As California confronts a grim budget situation, the new report reveals complex challenges to the supply and assignment of public school teachers and underscores the need for an effective teacher data system to inform the development of effective policies to improve teaching and learning in the state.

Research for California's Teaching Force 2008 was commissioned by the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning and conducted by SRI International (company) SRI International - One of the world's largest contract research firms. Founded in 1946 in conjuction with Stanford University as the Stanford Research Institute, they later became fully independent and were incorporated as a non-profit organisation under U.S. .
