Center for Architecture to host festival.The Center for Architecture, the public gallery of the American Institute of Architects The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. Organized in 1857, the Institute conducts various activities and programs to support the profession and enhance its public image, including periodically awarding the AIA New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of Chapter, will be the home base for this year's Architecture Week, a seven-day festival of contemporary design. Events for architecture professionals, children, city strollers, and anyone interested in design will fill the schedule, which runs October 4-10, with a pre-festival conference on October 2. Architecture Week focuses this year on the theme of design collaboration and also celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Center for Architecture, as New York City's public center for information and dialogue about design. Kicking off the week, the gallery at the Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place) will house the annual exhibition of winning projects of the AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture New York Chapter Design Awards. The awards program recognizes excellence in three categories: architecture, interior architecture, and projects. Winners of this year's awards, including Allied Works Architecture, Caples Jefferson Architects, Richard Meier Richard Meier (born October 12 1934 in Newark, New Jersey) is an influential, contemporary American architect known for his rationalist designs and the use of the colour white. and Partners, Polshek Partnership, Rogers Marvel Architects, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and Weiss/Manfredi Architects, will be honored at a reception on Monday, October 4, immediately following the opening of the exhibition at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, October 5, the Center for Architecture will host a Design-In Marathon: 12 hours of uninterrupted dialogue about collaboration, considered as an integral feature of creativity in architectural practice, design, and the arts. Team presentations, ranging from intimate dialogues to round-table discussions will begin at 9 a.m. Topics to be discussed range from the Second Avenue Subway to the Highline, from the Robin Hood Robin Hood, legendary hero of 12th-century England who robbed the rich to help the poor. A surprise feature will follow and free popcorn will be available throughout the evening. October 9 and 10, are the dates for free tours of new and historic buildings throughout the five boroughs, organized by the independent, not-for-profit organization openhousenewyork. In this its second year, openhousenewyork will include more than 100 sites--from cemeteries to light houses, arsenals to meeting houses, power plants to swimming pools, Times Square to private apartments.
