This initial contract will entail deploying PilotCenter management and monitoring functionality across BYU's approximately 110 existing AccessPoint TEC Room teaching podiums situated throughout the Provo, Utah campus. The university plans to deploy as many as 200 podiums on the Provo campus as resources become available.

The managed assets built into the podiums to be monitored by PilotCenter include a networked PC with DVD/CD player, a VCR VCR: see videocassette recorder.

, cable TV access, and an overhead projector. The initial contract also encompasses the management of computer lab equipment and the deployment of the comprehensive PilotCenter enterprise management solution to the BYU-Hawaii campus in Laie, on Oahu.

Additional projects are under discussion with BYU.

"We're enthusiastic about the opportunity to provide enterprise management solutions to BYU that can be deployed quickly and cost effectively," said Center 7 Chief Executive Officer Kelly Phillipps. "PilotCenter offers BYU greater control and more information -- more metrics about how end users employ IT assets.

"In turn, this helps IT administrators know what additional functionality is needed; how to spend their resources, and how to improve service to users, with the ultimate goal of bringing more BYU educational opportunities to those who can't be present on campus."

Kelly McDonald, assistant IT vice president at BYU, added, "We are excited about the partnership possibilities with Center 7. We look forward to a major improvement in our IT infrastructure because of the network management services that Center 7 will provide. We are especially looking forward to the proactive support that faculty will receive in TEC Rooms because of the PilotCenter monitoring."

The proactive monitoring capabilities of PilotCenter are designed to increase podium availability and decrease downtime, which can disrupt lecture and teaching situations.
