), a leading manufacturer of removable Flash PC Cards, Flash SIMMs, and custom PCMCIA cards, announced today that Centennial will market, promote and sell the Norris Flash Operating System operating system (OS)

(Flash OS) to its worldwide customer base.

In the strategic alliance announced today, Norris and Centennial Tech will work together to shorten time to market and reduce costs for developers integrating digitized voice, video, and other data into a wide range of Flash memory products and applications.

"The combined technology of the Norris Flash OS and Centennial's removable Flash memory products is poised to usher in Verb 1. usher in - be a precursor of; "The fall of the Berlin Wall ushered in the post-Cold War period"

This partnership arrangement will enable the two companies to strengthen their individual positions in the mobile technology marketplace.

The two companies will aggressively pursue direct application of their combined technology in a variety of application-specific products ranging from digital voice recorders and cameras to solid state flight data recorders The flight data recorder (FDR) is a flight recorder used to record specific aircraft performance parameters. A separate device is the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), although some versions (including the original) combine both in one unit. , digital imaging systems, thermometer and gage data recorders, and other products using Flash memory.

"We see the number of new consumer Flash card applications rising significantly as companies see the demand for solid-state media continue to grow," said Jack McDonald Jack McDonald may refer to

, Centennial Tech's Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "The Norris Flash OS allows companies to quickly develop Flash memory applications, for a shorter time to market and a savings in cost over PC-based applications," McDonald continued.

Norris and Centennial Tech agree that the move is on to create low power, low cost portable devices and still exchange data with a PC.

"The normal adapter between a hand-held device using one of the new Flash memory card formats and a PC," stated Bob Root, CEO of Norris Communications, "adds a cost of $50 to $100 in hardware, software and design costs to the hand-held device. Cooperation between Centennial Tech and Norris will allow the devices to directly interface with removable memory cards, saving the cost of building a separate adapter."

"The market segment we're going after," Root continued, "consists of application-specific products which by nature need to be lean and inexpensive, even disposable in some cases. In only 15K of memory our Flash OS saves substantial microcontroller A single chip that contains the processor (the CPU), non-volatile memory for the program (ROM or flash), volatile memory for input and output (RAM), a clock and an I/O control unit.  and DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  costs by performing their assigned functions using software alone. What we are doing with Centennial is not offering people the ability to take a picture or make a recording, but the ability to do those things -- and others -- inexpensively."

Headquartered in Billerica, Mass., Centennial Technologies Inc. has become a leader in the development and manufacturing of one of the broadest ranges of PC Cards, SIMM Modules, and Flash technologies in the industry. Their products are designed to enhance the utility of portable computers and electronic equipment by adding additional memory, storage, multimedia, security, and more.
