Centennial Technologies Introduces Combination Serial Communications/Flash Memory PC Card.

WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1999--

CENTENNIAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC inc - /ink/ increment, i.e. increase by one. Especially used by assembly programmers, as many assembly languages have an "inc" mnemonic.

. (Ticker:CENL CENL Conference of European National Librarians

) today introduced a combination Serial Communications/Flash Memory Card, Serial Flash Link(tm), to its product line. Serial Flash Link(tm) is the first PCMCIA card that can function as a nonvolatile linear flash PCMCIA card, serial RS-232 flash memory card and serial PCMCIA card programmer.

"The Serial Flash Link(tm) product solves PCMCIA/serial communication cross platform compatibility issues when downloading data from a variety of sources, including the internet," said Richard Stathes, Centennial's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "The Serial Flash Link(tm) card provides an all inclusive, portable solution for upgrading embedded system software as well as downloading and transferring field data in a wide range of applications, including sewing machines, navigational systems and precision measurement equipment."

Serial Flash Link(tm) provides the optimal solution for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  manufacturers who have previously struggled with applications requiring periodic data transfers between linear flash cards used in embedded systems and the end-user's desktop or laptop PC. Serial Flash Link(tm) leverages the on-board micro-controller and a RS-232 Serial I/O cable to handle the serial communications and flash program algorithms. A generic command set is used to eliminate the previously daunting daunt

task of selecting the appropriate flash memory algorithms to Read, Write and Erase the card. The card maintains the standard linear flash memory interface and architecture OEMs have come to rely on for firmware storage, Execute-In-Place (XIP) and data collection applications.

The Serial Flash Link(tm) card can also serve as a stand-alone card programming station. When coupled with Centennial's unique 68-pin socket adapter, the Serial Flash Link(tm) card can copy, reprogram and verify standard PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers.  and Linear flash cards. Industry standard data compression and decompression algorithms in the micro-controller firmware expedite the transfer of data via the RS-232 Serial port. Centennial's continued development efforts include a next generation version of the Serial Flash Link(tm) product using the Universal Serial Bus See USB.
