Charlie is a regular and shop manager Dave Little wanted to do something special for his 100thbirthday. ``He's been coming in here for years and he never misses a single day's racing. ``He comes in at about 1.30pmand stays until 4pm backing his favourites. ``His usual bet is a patent and he has a wonderful knowledge of horses. ``Because he is such a character we decided we would do something special to celebrate his special day. ``So we gave him free bets for the day and everyone chipped in to pay for a tea party for him. ``To be honest it's hard to believe he is 100 because he looks so well and he is always so bright and chirpy chirp·y n. 1. I really enjoy going there every day but didn't expect to get all that.'' His daughter Colette said: ``He is still very independent and enjoys the company of staff and customers in the shop. ``It was a lovely thing for them to do - they didn't have to go to all that trouble.''
