 program for IBM employees.

By infusing the program's curriculum with company-specific issues and projects, IBM will be providing employees with an education that is academically sound and of immediate value to both the employee and the company.

Those completing the 15-month program will earn a Master of Science Degree in Science and Technology Commercialization (MSSTC MSSTC Multi-Stratum Space-Time Code ) from The University of Texas at Austin. The MSSTC degree, which is offered by UT Austin's IC2 Institute, is specifically designed to help teach IBM technologists the skills necessary to take products to market faster. The custom degree will adapt the curriculum within a context that is immediately relevant to the day-to-day work of IBM employees.

"By placing The University of Texas' leading edge curriculum within the context of IBM's ongoing projects, we believe we will be offering our employees an education with value and relevance that is unprecedented," said Bruce Aumack, a manager at IBM's center of learning. "IBM clearly understands that the marketplace is continuously evolving. The custom degree program will help ensure that our employees are prepared to meet the challenges of a changing marketplace and help IBM lead the industry into the future."

While the program includes a face-to-face launch, the remainder of the 15-month degree program will take place online. This e-learning model will allow participation of employees from IBM campuses around the world while maintaining minimum impact on their day-to-day productivity. It will also permit the inclusion of guest lectures from IBM executives. Cenquest will work with the university and IBM to ensure that the educational experience meets university standards while addressing specific IBM business objectives.

"The logistical freedom provided by e-learning has opened the doors to radically new possibilities in corporate education," said LaVonne Reimer, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  for Cenquest, "including the ability for universities to offer companies degree programs tailored to meet their individual needs. We are seeing this marriage of credentials and company-specific requirements spark the imagination of CEOs looking to generate a more substantial and visible return on their employee education investment, a valued component of employee benefits and compensation plans."

The IBM program will build on the experience of UT Austin and Cenquest in jointly developing and delivering the MSSTC degree to the first group of online students who graduated in May 2001. This existing online degree will be modified to include an IBM-specific focus in several ways. These include:
-- Identifying and assessing IBM technologies for commercialization potential.

-- Including assignments and group projects that focus on IBM's critical
business issues.

-- Integrating IBM-specific readings, discussions and examples within courses.

-- Involving IBM executives as online "speakers" or discussion moderators.

-- Designing a delivery schedule to fit the company's calendar.

"The University of Texas at Austin's innovative MS in Science and Technology degree program highlights the pioneering spirit of education today," said Dr. Brad Zehner, director of the MSSTC program. "I believe the work we are doing with IBM is indicative of a trend that will redefine the relationship between academia and the corporate worlds."
