The Challenge of Web Authoring

Until now, creating Web pages required an understanding of the details of HTML HTML

addresses and various image file formats Image file formats provide a standardized method of organizing and storing image data. This article deals with digital image formats used to store photographic and other image information. . Pages were typically created in a text editor directly using HTML codes, or translated from existing documents using format conversion utilities. Either way, even simple changes to a page involved editing and saving it, possibly converting it, previewing the results in a browser, re-editing, re-saving or re-converting etc. until the desired result was achieved. Site managers had no easy way to verify that their sites worked correctly. Updating a site often required using tedious and time-consuming scripting languages. Renaming or moving a single file often required editing dozens of other files by hand to ensure hyperlinks pointed to the correct resources.

The Ceneca Web authoring products eliminate such tedious iterations, and put the functionality of all these programs into one integrated, easy to use package.

Ceneca PageMill for Page Creation

Ceneca PageMill is an integrated authoring tool that lets Web site managers quickly and easily create, edit, and update Web pages without having to learn HTML. Web pages are edited directly using normal word processing word processing, use of a computer program or a dedicated hardware and software package to write, edit, format, and print a document. Text is most commonly entered using a keyboard similar to a typewriter's, although handwritten input (see pen-based computer) and  tools. Ceneca PageMill's editing and formatting match the capabilities of HTML exactly, so what you see on the screen as you edit always duplicates how the page appears in popular browsers. Also, unlike existing file format converters and add-ons to word processing tools, Ceneca PageMill eliminates the risk of losing data when converting text and graphics into HTML. Creating links between files and adding images to text is a simple matter of drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another. . Ceneca PageMill supports advanced HTML features such as clickable image Same as imagemap.  maps and fill in-forms, all with "what you see is what you get (jargon) What You See Is What You Get - (WYSIWYG) /wiz'ee-wig/ Describes a user interface for a document preparation system under which changes are represented by displaying a more-or-less accurate image of the way the document will finally appear, e.g. when printed.
