Residents have lost the latest stage in their battle to stop affordable houses and flats being built on the approach Road to Barry Cemetery. Newydd Housing Association was last month granted planning permission to build 61 houses and flats on the land at the top of Tynewydd Road, Barry. The decision was taken on the casting vote CASTING VOTE, legislation. The Welsh Assembly Government The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) (Welsh: Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, LlCC) was firstly an executive body of the National Assembly for Wales, consisting of the First Minister and his Cabinet from 1999 to 2007.  has now declined to call in the application, saying the development was not of national or regional importance.

Dennis Harkus, chairman of the Save Cemetery Approach action group said: "It is very disappointing news. The petition against the planning application contained 5,869 names.

"Barry has been losing its identity for many years and building on the approach to the cemetery is yet another example of this trend," he added.
