(NYSE:MU), today announced that CellularRAM(TM) technology is the recipient of Wireless Systems Design Magazine's 2004 Industry Award for "Best Wireless Technology."

"Each year, Wireless Systems Design Magazine (www.wsdmag.com) honors a handful of wireless products and technology developments setting the standard in their competitive field, and we feel privileged CellularRAM technology is among them," said Cypress, Infineon and Micron in a joint statement. "This industry recognition, together with support from major chipset suppliers and numerous, high-volume design wins, validates CellularRAM architecture as a leading high-performance, low-power memory solution for 2.5G and 3G handset designs."

A committee of the magazine's editors, industry leaders and readers select award recipients from among hundreds of nominees. This year's winners are being honored today at the Wireless Systems Design Conference (www.wsdexpo.com) in San Diego, Calif.

Members of the co-development team have launched CellularRAM products into the market, covering densities of 16Mb, 32Mb and 64Mb. The three companies co-developed the CellularRAM specification to meet the growing memory and bandwidth demands of future 2.5G and 3G handset designs at a lower cost-per-bit ratio than current solutions. CellularRAM devices incorporate several low-power features and are drop-in compatible, having the same voltage range, package, and ball assignment with asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. The interval between transmitting A and B is not the same as between B and C. The ability to initiate a transmission at either end.  low-power SRAMs currently used in cell phone designs. This compatible architecture provides designers a smooth transition from SRAM See static RAM.

In addition, the CellularRAM products emulate Flash burst-compatible protocol providing increased performance with a peak bandwidth of up to 208 megabytes per second (unit) megabytes per second - (MBps, MB/s) Millions of bytes per second. A unit of data rate. 1 MB/s = 1,000,000 bytes per second (not 1,048,576).  (MB/s) or 1.5 gigabits per second (Gb/s).

solutions are a growing trend for mobile applications. As CellularRAM products are ideal companion devices, the specification co-development continues to enable the market by designing future generations of CellularRAM products with a common bond format supporting the Multi-Chip Package (MCP) requirements of most customers.

The CellularRAM co-development members each provide their respective customers with pin- and function-compatible products from multiple sources, based on the jointly developed specification for CellularRAM products. Each member company is manufacturing products using its own design and process technologies and product development timetables. In addition, CellularRAM specification co-development members are jointly working on defining the specification for the next generation of the CellularRAM product family -- a 128Mb device. Members target sampling of these devices in mid-2004. For more information, visit www.cellularram.com.
