Cellular One launches driving safety program; new program gives customers tools and tips for responsible driving; company donation to benefit school driver education programs.

, today announced a new driving safety program.

A customer outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.  initiative, the program combines a variety of elements designed to give customers tools and tips for safe driving while using their wireless phones. In addition, Cellular One will also donate funds to selected Bay Area high schools to help support driver education programs.

Hands-Free Devices

Cellular One encourages customers to take advantage of the availability of a variety of "Hands-Free" devices that enable the use of wireless phones while keeping both hands on the wheel. As part of this program, customers can visit any one of 12 Cellular One company-owned retail stores and enter to win a top-of-the-line "Hands-Free" car kit and installation.

Free Programming of Phones

Customers can visit any Cellular One company-owned store and have their wireless phone pre-programmed with their most frequently called numbers for free. Customers can easily make a call with the touch of a button -- no need to look up the number or punch in the digits. In addition, Cellular One will give customers a peel-off window decal to note their pre-programmed keys for easy recall.

Donation to Bay Area High Schools

For every phone that is pre-programmed through its stores, Cellular One will donate $1 to selected Bay Area high schools in support of driver education programs. Driving Safety Tips

Cellular One has compiled a list of tips to promote wireless communications and safe driving. It will be included in newsletters mailed to customers and distributed free at Cellular One company-owned retail stores. It is also available on the company's web site at http://www.cellone-sf.com/tip.html . A copy of the tip "Rules for the Road" is attached.

Alternate Emergency Numbers

Calling 911 from a wireless phone is different than calling from a landline Land based. The most relevant numbers can be pre-programmed into a customer's wireless phone.

The directory of alternate emergency numbers covers most California cities in the four area codes served by Cellular One in the Greater Bay Area: 415, 510, 408 and 707.
