Cellular One Gives Big Rapids Area Stronger Signal; Wireless Provider Adds Three New Cell Sites.


MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- Cellular One customers in Central Michigan

Central Michigan, often called Mid-Michigan, is a region in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan.

The sites are:

Canadian Lakes -- improving coverage, call quality, data capabilities, and area performance east of Big Rapids Big Rapids, city (1990 pop. 12,603), seat of Mecosta co., W central Mich., at the falls of the Muskegon River; inc. 1869. Agriculture and light manufacturing predominate, and Big Rapids serves as a shipping point for the region's grains.  and south of Rodney along M20 and west of Mecosta.

Mecosta East - improving coverage, call quality, data capabilities, and area performance in Mecosta and south along M20 and west of Remus along M20 to include Buchannan Road and 70th Ave.

Clear Lake -- improving coverage, call quality, data capabilities, and area performance east of Big Rapids and west of Rodney along M20 to include McKinley Road.

All three sites will provide seamless coverage heading east along M20 to Remus.

Along with the three additional sites, Cellular One added a location near Central Michigan University Central Michigan University, at Mount Pleasant, Mich.; coeducational; est. 1892 as a normal school, became Central State Teachers College in 1927, achieved university status in 1959. The university maintains a forest that is used for botanical and biological research. . It will assist the area with capacity and coverage in and around CMU CMU - Carnegie Mellon University .

Nationwide, Cellular One plans to add approximately 300 new cell sites to its state-of-the-art GSM/EDGE/GPRS network this year, Davis said.
