Cellular One Adds Internet E-Mail Messaging to Digital PCS Service; Customers Can Now Receive E-mail Messages Directly on Their Phones; Cellular One First to Implement Advanced Messaging Capabilities for Digital PCS.

Digital PCS customers with the PCS Paging option can now receive short Internet e-mail messages directly on their Digital PCS phones. The messages can be up to 140 characters long, including the subject heading and the sender's name.

To reach a Digital PCS customer, the e-mail should be sent via the Internet using the format: (Customer's 10 digital cellular number) @paging.cellone-sf.com . For example, if Jane Smith's cellular number is 510/555-1234 and she has PCS Paging, a message can be sent addressing it to 5105551234@paging.cellone-sf.com .

"We have received great feedback from our customers regarding our PCS Paging feature and this new capability makes the service even more valuable for the person who needs to stay in touch."

In addition to Internet e-mail, PCS Paging customers can also receive text messages using messaging software, such as Cellular One Mobile Message, on a PC or Macintosh computer. Numeric pages can be sent to customers by calling a national toll-free number or leaving a callback An authentication technique that calls the sender back. After connection is made, the receiving side breaks the connection and calls the sender to ensure that the logon was made from the authorized computer. Also, beginning today all PCS Paging customers will pay one low rate for both numeric and text messaging Sending short messages to a smartphone, pager, PDA or other handheld device. Text messaging implies sending short messages generally no more than a couple of hundred characters in length. . Customers can receive both types of messaging for only $3.99 per month or a package including messaging and voice mail is available for $6.99 per month.

Cellular One is also working on providing PCS Paging customers the ability to receive text messages sent from the Cellular One Web site. This will be available in the Fall.
