), a leading provider of wireless data communications and Network Meter Reading (NMR NMR: see magnetic resonance. ) services, today announced the introduction of its second-generation gas communications module.

John M. (Mick) Seidl, CellNet's president and chief executive officer, said, "Our new state-of-the art gas communications module enables us to provide the same low-cost and high-performance Network Meter Reading (NMR) service to the gas industry that we've been providing to the electricity industry since 1994. This product launch is the fruit of one of many continuous improvement research and development (R&D) efforts underway today at CellNet. In fact, we invested more than $25 million in R&D last year in systems software, applications, operations, and hardware, all to meet the dynamic business needs of our customers."

The new gas communications module easily retrofits to standard residential gas meters, including leading brands American, Equimeter and Schlumberger, providing connectivity to CellNet's fixed data networks. The module communicates on radio frequencies and at signal strengths consistent with other CellNet-network compatible endpoints. Similar to CellNet's electric meter communications modules, the new gas communication modules provide accurate daily and hourly consumption data and enable enhanced services including: on-request meter reads; remote turn-on/turn-off services; consolidated billing for multiple gas accounts; flexible, customer-selected billing dates; and gas theft and meter tampering prevention.

CellNet's rugged and durable gas communications modules are designed for optimal performance in temperature extremes ranging from -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C and in relative humidity relative humidity
