A recent survey of 50,000 U.S. households by Computer Intelligence (CI), the leading source of fact-based information for the computer and communications industries communications industry, broadly defined, the business of conveying information. Although communication by means of symbols and gestures dates to the beginning of human history, the term generally refers to mass communications. , has found that more than 25 percent of them own cellular phones. The study also revealed that 23 percent of those surveyed reported owning two cellular phones, and five percent reported owning three or more.

Cellular telephone users surveyed by CI also reported higher than average PC ownership and Internet usage. Fifty percent of cellular phone-owning households in the study reported owning personal computers, significantly higher than the PC penetration rate of approximately 40 percent for all U.S. households that CI reported last month. The cell phone users surveyed are also much more likely to be accessing the Internet: 43 percent of cell-phone households reported Internet use, considerably more than the 33 percent of PC-only owners who accessed the Internet.

"This new research shows that these two worlds of communication are converging to serve a core, target market," said Mark Nelson, Vice President and General Manager of CI's Consumer Research Group.
