WHY: The Sutter Home for Hope campaign demonstrates how something
good can spring from tragedy. The program was conceived in
2001 by Winery Owner Vera Trinchero Torres and Senior Vice
President Terry Wheatley, who were diagnosed with breast
cancer within weeks of each other. At the same time, several
other women at the winery were also going through their own
battles with breast cancer. Through surgeries and treatment,
these women are now cancer-free and continue to be an
inspiration and the driving forces behind Sutter Home for
Hope. The program funds organizations which promote early
detection and those that seek a cure for the disease.
