Celebrity eatery set to open at W57th Street tower.


A decade after opening in Tribeca and "mushrooming" into a global phenomenon, Nobu, the celebrated Japanese restaurant owned by a partnership that includes actor Robert DeNiro is expanding to a second Manhattan location, this one in midtown.

The ultra-trendy Nobu has signed a long-term lease at the Lefrak Organization's distinctive 34-story office tower at 40 West 57th West 57th can refer to:

  • West 57th (news magazine), a news magazine program which aired on the CBS Television Network from 1985 to 1989
 Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, and expects to open its new "uptown" flagship restaurant within a year.

The latest Nobu will be spacious, comprising 13,000 s/f of space--3,000 on the building's ground floor and another 10,000 at the mezzanine level Mezzanine level

The Nobu partnership, which includes DeNiro, chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Richie Notar and Drew Nieporent, opened its signature Tribeca restaurant to enthusiastic reviews in August 1994. Within four years, it had earned similar praise for its innovative cuisine at Nobu London and Next Store Nobu. Today, Nobu is a global phenomenon, with restaurants all over the world, including Tokyo, Las Vegas, and Miami Beach.

Opened in 1972, 40 West 57th Street is currently nearing the end of a major multi-million dollar capital improvement program that has successfully repositioned the building as one of New York's most desirable business addresses.
