But as our thoughts turn to recreation in the next millennium, we must ensure that waves and beaches remain timeless treasures for both present and future generations. Our childlike sense of wonder must now be combined with a mature dedication to stewardship. The special environment where land meets sea deserves our best efforts to safeguard and enhance its recreational benefits.
