Celebrities turn out for Highclere syndicate show.

BEN FOGLE, Jodie Kidd and Jeremy Kyle were among those who enjoyed the annual Highclere Racing yearling parades at Highclere Stud near Newbury this week. Approximately 700 guests attended the parades, which were held over three days to showcase the seven new syndicates for 2010.

Each syndicate contains two yearlings, including those by the likes of Danehill Dancer, Montjeu, Motivator, Mr Greeley, Oasis Dream, Shamardal and first-crop sire Cacique.

Despite the economic climate, syndicate manager Harry Herbert reported that interest in Highclere - which has raced champions such as Lake Coniston and Petrushka - is as strong as ever.

He said: "Traditionally, the syndicates have attracted friends of friends, but we've had a lot of interest from elsewhere this year, in particular from our new website. We've got a really good bunch of yearlings by very good sires, and we were very pleased to buy two by Cacique because there aren't many in his first crop."

Onlookers were treated to a conformation demonstration by Highclere agent John Warren, who also discussed the work involved in selecting an affordable group of yearlings.

"It is fascinating to hear John describing his process of selection and exactly how much work goes into acquiring 14 yearlings," said Herbert.
