Celebratory Brunch to Be Held at Sea Ranch Lodge Commemorating 40th Anniversary of the Sea Ranch and Opening of Lawrence Halprin Art Show.


THE SEA RANCH, Calif. -- A brunch celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Sea Ranch Association will be held April 30th at the Sea Ranch Lodge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the restaurant. A special commemorative menu will be printed, paying homage to the Sea Ranch and its unique Sonoma Coast history.

The brunch will also honor artist Lawrence Halprin Lawrence Halprin (born July 1, 1916 in New York City) is a prolific and accomplished American landscape architect and educator. Biography
Halprin grew up in New York and spent three of his teenage years in Palestine on a kibbutz.
, whose art work will be on display at the Sea Ranch Lodge from April 30 through the month of May. Lawrence Halprin is one of the world's leading landscape architects and environmental planners. As one of the founding architects of the Sea Ranch, Halprin was instrumental in the development's "living lightly on the land" design. It was Lawrence Halprin's plans and sketches that called for houses tucked into hedgerows, leaving broad stretches of land available for open commons and wildlife space.

Lawrence Halprin's show at the Sea Ranch Lodge will highlight many of his archival Sea Ranch design plan sketches as well as his more recent water color Wa´ter col`or

Halprin's most recent projects include the new design for the area around Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park Yosemite National Park (yōsĕm`ĭtē), 761,266 acres (308,205 hectares), E central Calif.; est. 1890 as a result of the efforts of conservationist John Muir. Located in the Sierra Nevada, it is a glacier-scoured area of great beauty; Mt. , which is opening this week.

The original Sea Ranch concept called for architecture and design that would join people and the surrounding natural environment with minimal impact. Originally a sheep ranch, the overgrazed lands were to be rested and natural processes allowed to take their course, with indigenous planting provided where needed. The Sea Ranch was developed in 1963 and has 2,304 building lots on 3,500 acres.
