FOUR STUDENTS from Victoria University's Graduate School of Nursing and Midwifery midwifery (mĭd`wī'fərē), art of assisting at childbirth. O'Malley's PhD thesis involved research with 12 registered nurses seeking to improve nursing care in an acute mental health inpatient service inpatient service Managed care A service provided to a hospitalized Pt. Cf Outpatient service. . It followed focus groups with consumers, families, nurses, doctors and allied health professionals, and analysed projects developed to improve continuity and consistency of nursing care.

Connor's thesis explores one middle-aged woman's experience of chronic illness and repeat hospitalisations, and her nursing care in a community context over a three-year period.

Pearson's research investigated the way in which one low decile decile

Ramsden's thesis, "Cultural safety and nursing education in Aotearoa and Te Waipounamu", tells the story of cultural safety, its history, theory and future direction, through both private and public narrative. During a celebration at the graduate school prior to the graduation ceremony, Ramsden thanked the staff for their patience, as she has struggled with her own health demands and the effort needed to complete the thesis.

* Long-time Lyttleton practice nurse Joan Porteous received a Queen's Service Medal in the New Year Honours for services to nursing and the community. She retired last year from the Lyttleton Health Centre where she had worked for 22 years.
