With the cooperation of the Instructional Facilitator for the Visual Arts in the Howard County (Maryland) Public School System, ACEI's written request for student artwork was endorsed and printed in the school calendars. Every school in the county submitted art, from all instructional levels. Portraits in a variety of mediums were selected and the exhibition Portraits of Art Teachers by Their Students was held in the county's Department of Education Gallery through December 2001. Those who helped organize this project considered it "a huge success."

A Howard County Resource Teacher for the Visual Arts helped to select and lay out 23 portraits (from more than 100) to display in the building housing the ACEI Archives during the Week of the Classroom Teacher (May 6-12, 2002). In the main lobby of the Hornbake Undergraduate Library at the University of Maryland, College Park The University of Maryland, College Park (also known as UM, UMD, or UMCP) is a public university located in the city of College Park, in Prince George's County, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., in the United States. , the art received maximum exposure. When it was time to remove the display on May 17, the archivist ARCHIVIST. One to whose care the archives have been confided.  noted that the similar displays her department had featured in the past had received little or no response. She was pleased that the "Week of the Classroom Teacher" display, in contrast, generated many compliments from library and university staff and visitors. As we removed the exhibit, people stopped to ask why we were taking it down.

Encouraged by the high level of interest, we plan to continue to work closely with the Archives to raise awareness for the teaching profession.
