The Beijing Dance Academy Beijing Dance Academy (Simplified Chinese: 北京舞蹈学院; Traditional Chinese: 北京舞蹈學院 marked its first half-century in September. Fifty years after the Academy's original training was modeled on Moscow's Bolshoi Academy, the school's influences have broadened. Anniversary celebration guests came from around the world including: Tadeusz Matacz, director, John Cranko School of Stuttgart Ballet, Ben Stevenson of Fort Worth Dallas Ballet (Stevenson was active in opening the school to the western world in the '70s), Carol Walker of SUNY SUNY - State University of New York Purchase, and Larissa Saveliev, director of Youth America Grand Prix. Saveliev said one of the high points was rehearsal of a joint production of Sylvia by the Paris Opera Ballet The Paris Opéra Ballet is the official ballet company of the Opéra national de Paris, otherwise known as the Palais Garnier, though known more popularly simply as the Paris Opéra. and the National Ballet of China The National Ballet of China (NBC), or the Central Ballet Troupe as known in China, headquartered in Beijing, was founded on December 31, 1959, and is the only national ballet troupe of the country. . In addition to ballet, the academy offers Chinese classical and folk dance, modem, choreography, and social dance, and trains dancers from age 10 through college.
