Celebrating its 25(th) Anniversary, Shadowland Theatre Bookends its 2009 Summer Season with Pulitzer-Prize Winning Playwrights Arthur Miller and David Mamet.

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. -- It was 1984, the Berlin Wall fell, Chinese demonstrators were massacred in Tiananmen Square, Samuel Beckett, Laurence Olivier and Lucille Ball died, "Don't Worry, Be Happy" won record of the year, the first World Wide Web server was developed - and 35 theatre artists led by Ron Marquette in New York City moved to Ellenville, NY in the old Borscht Belt hotel region when the vacant, art-deco Shadowland Theatre building was made available to the group as a home base.

Now under the direction of Brendan Burke, producing artistic director, Shadowland Theatre, the leading Actors' Equity company in the Lower Hudson Valley region, today announced its 25th anniversary summer season, bookended by Arthur Miller's "The Price" and "American Buffalo" by David Mamet, Pulitzer Prize winning playwrights and two of the greatest masters of American dramatic theatre. "We're pleased to announce," said Burke, "that this season, Orson Bean, one of America's famed stage, TV and film actors, also known as a long-time panelist on TV's 'To Tell the Truth,' and Stephanie Zimbalist, best known for her role as Laura Holt on the NBC detective series 'Remington Steele,' have been cast in 'The Price.' And John Cariani, a Tony Award nominee for his performance in the Broadway revival of 'Fiddler on the Roof,' and from 2002 to 2007 the CSU forensics technician Julian Beck in NBC's 'Law & Order,' will be making his directing debut at Shadowland for 'Almost, Maine,' a romantic comedy he wrote."

Based in downtown Ellenville, 90 miles from midtown Manhattan, Shadowland is known for its powerful productions of classics, contemporary and new plays. Continuing its 25-year tradition, the 2009 summer season includes:

* "The Price" by Arthur Miller, May 29-June 14, "one of the most engrossing, entertaining plays that (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright) Miller has ever written," said The New York Times.

* "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani, June 19-July 12, a series of love stories told through magical realism.

* "Gutenberg! The Musical!" by Scott Brown and Anthony King, July 17-August 9, a spoof on big Broadway musicals. Two men, 30 hats and a piano are all that's needed to propel this high-energy work of hysterical fiction created by NYC's Upright Citizen's Brigade comedy troupe.

* "Accomplice" by Rupert Holmes, August 14-September 6, comes complete with all the twists and chills of an Agatha Christie mystery - and the laughs of a Monty Python spoof.

* "American Buffalo" by David Mamet, one of the strongest voices in the American theatre for over 30 years and his New York Drama Critics Circle Award-winning play, closes the season from September 11-September 27. Frank Rich, reviewing the play for The New York Times, said, "'American Buffalo' is one of the best American plays of the last decade."
