Celebrating emerging architects.This year's AR Awards for Emerging Architecture were presented on 30 November November: see month. at the Royal Institute of British Architects The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a professional body for architects in the United Kingdom. Originally named the Institute of British Architects in London , London London, city, Canada London, city (1991 pop. 303,165), SE Ont., Canada, on the Thames River. The site was chosen in 1792 by Governor Simcoe to be the capital of Upper Canada, but York was made capital instead. London was settled in 1826. . At an evening reception and private view, 20 winning practices and 200 guests viewed the award submission panels and celebrated the winners. The awards dinner took place at Villandry restaurant where lively conversations continued over dinner, giving the practices who had travelled from as far afield as Japan, Australia, Brazil and the US, the opportunity to meet key members of London's architectural community. The eighth annual AR Awards were supported by Buro Happold, Interface Flor and Wilkhahn, with the gala dinner being sponsored by Okalux. Also due to take place in February is the annual AR/RIBA Spring Lecture series, featuring speakers drawn from the Emerging Architecture Awards prizewinners. Always lively, the lectures broaden the debate begun in these pages. The series kicks off on 8 February 2007 with Miro Rivera Architects and WOHA WOHA Washington Occupational Health Associates Architects.
