Based on a belief that "art makes people's lives better," this book seeks to encourage art expression by providing a series of innovative approaches to tried and tested art projects for pre-school children. Although primarily written to encourage parents to create art with their children, the emphasis on involvement, participation, and interaction would prove equally successful in nursery school nursery school, educational institution for children from two to four years of age. It is distinguishable from a day nursery in that it serves children of both working and nonworking parents, rarely receives public funds, and has as its primary objective to promote  and early kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be  settings. Colorfully illustrated with photographs and artworks, the author suggests art activities that relate to important events and experiences in the lives of young children. Activities are organized into three meaningful groupings: transitions, passages, and history. Suggestions on supplies, space, and storage for projects precede each activity-based chapter. These could become single projects, collaborative classroom efforts, or even extra-credit homework projects.
