Celcore supplies cellular systems for Indonesia.

MEMPHIS Memphis, city, ancient Egypt
Memphis (mĕm`fĭs), ancient city of Egypt, capital of the Old Kingdom (c.3100–c.2258 B.C.), at the apex of the Nile delta and 12 mi (18 km) from Cairo.
, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1996--Celcore Inc. announced that it has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by PT. Komunikasi Selular Indonesia (Komselindo) to expand its cellular network in Indonesia.

Initially, the network expansion project will provide cellular service to seven cities Seven Cities may refer to:
  • The mythical "Isle of Seven Cities", also known as Antillia
  • The Seven Cities of Hampton Roads, the largest communities in southeastern Virginia
  • "Seven Cities", a 1999 single by trance producers Solarstone
in the island of Sumatra to increase Komselindo's coverage area and system capacity to meet the anticipated subscriber growth in the region. Sumatra is the sixth largest island in the world covering 474,000 square kilometers with a population of approximately 37 million.

Komselindo is a leading cellular operator in Indonesia with AMPS networks in West Java West Java (Indonesian: :Jawa Barat) is a province of Indonesia, located on the island of Java. The capital is Bandung. History , including Jakarta, the nation's capital, North Sumatra and Sulawesi. It was established in 1995 as a joint venture between PT. Elektrindo Nusantara, an affiliate of Bimantara Group, and PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), the state-owned domestic telecommunications operator.

Under the contract, Celcore will supply its GlobalSwitch(TM) mobile switching centers, GlobalCell(TM) AMPS base stations, GlobalHub(TM) IS-41 application processor, and Network Management System. Celcore is also providing a complete system solution including installation and commissioning services and ancillary equipment.

With an advanced distributed architecture, the Celcore network provides superior cost benefits over a traditional centralized approach in low-traffic density markets. By distributing compact and modular switching systems throughout the coverage area, operators can reduce overall capital investments and lower backhauling and transmission costs.

"The cost-effectiveness and ease of implementation, combined with advanced switching and networking technologies, make Celcore the most logical choice for this expansion project," said Mr. Soedjono Kramadibrata, President of Komselindo.

The GlobalSwitch is a family of modular Mobile Switching Centers that can be flexibly configured to connect to the public switched telephone network (PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S. ), private branch exchange (PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). ), VSAT (Very Small Aperture satellite Terminal) A small earth station for satellite transmission that handles up to 56 Kbits/sec of digital transmission. VSATs that handle the T1 data rate (up to 1.544 Mbits/sec) are called "TSATs.  or microwave transmission network. The GlobalHub provides seamless networking between multiple GlobalSwitches as well as IS-41 Revision B networking capability to Komselindo's existing cellular network for roaming and call delivery. The Network Management System, with easy-to-use graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
, provides centralized operation, administration, maintenance and provisioning for the entire Celcore network.

"We are delighted to work with Komselindo to meet the needs of Indonesia's rapidly expanding cellular market. Celcore's distributed architecture and advanced technology are designed to provide wireless service in emerging markets cost-effectively, especially for Indonesia's dispersed geography," said Mohammad Inamullah, President, International Systems of Celcore.

Celcore has been chosen to supply cellular systems in low-traffic density markets around the world. In addition to systems already deployed in North America, Africa, and the Pacific, by the end of 1996 Celcore systems will be deployed in Eastern Europe and Asia as well.

With headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., U.S.A., Celcore develops and markets wireless infrastructure equipment worldwide. Based on a distributed client-server architecture, Celcore wireless systems are designed for scaleable and cost-effective implementation. Celcore's diverse product line includes its GlobalSystems portfolio of cellular, micro-cellular, wireless local loop, GSM, PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995.
