Celcore supplies GlobalHub to Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems for new "FreedomPlus" service.MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 1996--Celcore officials announced an agreement to supply Celcore's GlobalHub(TM) product to Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems for its FreedomPlus service offering. Working in conjunction with Motorola's Personal Phone Series (PPS) product, and FreedomLink wireless PBX, Celcore's GlobalHub enables Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems to provide FreedomPlus service which offers one phone that can be used at home, at work, or on the road with a single phone number -- the cellular number. Celcore's GlobalHub is an intelligent network platform which provides mobility management functions and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) interfaces using industry standard protocols. Easy to install, operate, and maintain, the GlobalHub is scaleable to meet the needs of cellular markets both large and small with modular expansion. Combining Celcore's expertise in cellular networking and Motorola's leading edge wireless technology, Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems worked closely with both companies and the Telecommunications Industry Association to create open standards for this new technology. "With the pace of today's busy lifestyles, our customers look for services that provide them flexibility they can count on," said Drew Roy, Executive Vice President Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems. "When it comes to meeting these communication needs, FreedomPlus eliminates the distinctions between home, office and on-the-road communications, creating true wireless communications versatility." Motorola's PPS Personal Base(TM) communicates with the GlobalHub through a subscriber's existing telephone line. The GlobalHub updates a subscriber's location with the cellular network through IS-41, a cellular industry networking standard, to allow cellular calls to follow the subscriber. The PPS handset functions as a cordless phone by using cellular frequencies when it's within range of the Personal Base. And, at the same time, the subscriber's cellular calls are automatically re-routed to the residential number through the PSTN. The handset functions as a regular cellular phone when outside the range of the Personal Base and it also works with IS-94 compliant wireless business phone systems. "We are pleased to work with Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems and contribute to this exciting service offering," said Robert Goodman, Celcore CEO. "The deployment of GlobalHubs in Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems markets is a significant step in making effortless, anywhere access a reality for cellular subscribers." A live demonstration of the FreedomPlus service will be shown during Wireless `96 an industry tradeshow sponsored by Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, on March 21-23 at the Celcore booth in Dallas, Texas. With headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., Celcore develops and markets wireless infrastructure equipment worldwide. Based on a distributed client-server architecture, Celcore wireless solutions are designed for scaleable and cost-effective implementation. Celcore's diverse product line includes its GlobalSystems portfolio of cellular, micro-cellular, fixed wireless, CDMA, GSM, and PCS systems; GlobalSwitch(TM) family of modular Mobile Switching Centers; GlobalCell(TM) base stations for both analog and digital air protocols; Network Management System with graphical user interface; and GlobalHub(TM) intelligent network platform for advanced one-number services.
