Highly Successful at Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, April 15

Cedric Kushner Promotions staged the first ever unionized boxing card last Thursday, April 15 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The night of fights was presented in conjunction with the Joint Association of Boxers in New York City, and it was a highly successful evening, drawing a near capacity crowd of close to 2,000 Teamsters and fight fans in attendance at Heavyweight Heat which was televised live on Showtime's Shobox series.

Teamster general president Jim Hoffa, Sen. Charles Schumer, Rev. Al Sharpton, political columnist Jack Newfield, LeRoy Neiman, and fighters Sharmbe Mitchell, Zab Judah, Lou Savarese and Emile Griffith, trainers Lou Duva and Teddy Atlas were just a few of the dignitaries in attendance to watch no. 4 ranked Jameel McCline make short work of England's Wayne Llewelyan, and Jeremy Williams top Sweden's Attila Levin.

The historic card marked by the first official unionized boxing matches under the auspices of the Joint Association for Boxers. J.A.B., headed by former light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, was formed for the physical and financial protection of boxers and is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
