Cedric Kushner Promotions' Jameel McCline Named Mandatory Contender for Heavyweight Champion Chris Byrd.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 2004

The International Boxing Federation has named Jameel McCline, who is promoted by Cedric Kushner Promotions, as the "leading available" mandatory contender for heavyweight champion Chris Byrd.

The IBF notified McCline on Monday (April 19) through his promoter Kushner that the mandatory defense must take place on or before June 20. Negotiations are to begin with Byrd's promoter, Don King, immediately.

Byrd retained his IBF heavyweight title on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden when he fought Andrew Golota to a draw. McCline is coming off a huge first round TKO over Wayne Llewelyan at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City Thursday night.
