Cech ready to fight for Albion place.

Byline: Chris Lepkowski

MAREK Cech has accepted he will be staying at The Hawthorns.

The Slovakian's future has been in doubt for some time since he failed to nail down a place in Tony Mowbray's side last season.

But Cech is back in the first-team picture this season under new boss Roberto Di Matteo Roberto Di Matteo (born May 29, 1970 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland) is a Swiss-Italian former professional footballer. A midfielder, his career consisted of spells at Schaffhausen (1988-91), Zürich (1991-92), Aarau (1992-93), Lazio (1993-96), and Chelsea (1996-2002).  and is happy to fight for his place in the side.

The ex-Porto man was the subject of interest from FC Twente FC Twente (also incorrectly referred to as Twente Enschede) is a Dutch professional football club from the city of Enschede. They currently play in the Eredivisie.  but the Dutch club failed to make any progress with their pursuit, offering a price way below Albion's valuation.

Cech is on international duty with Slovakia ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifiers with the Czech Republic Czech Republic, Czech Česká Republika (2005 est. pop. 10,241,000), republic, 29,677 sq mi (78,864 sq km), central Europe. It is bordered by Slovakia on the east, Austria on the south, Germany on the west, and Poland on the north.  and Northern Ireland.

Slovakia could clinch a World Cup Finals spot if results go in their favour so the need for first-team football will be imperative if Cech is to retain his international place.

He said: "Even if I wanted to go in the summer, now I have reconciled with the fact that I remain with West Bromwich Albion.

"The Championship is very good, although it was less technical than the Premiership. I want to fight for my place. This is an important year for me and I want regular football."
