CeBIT 2001

HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2001

Telefonica S.A, the diversified telecommunications and multimedia giant, today unveiled at the CeBIT Expo in Hannover, Germany a suite of wireless applications developed by U.S. wireless enterprise applications company, Numoda Corporation.

The wireless applications displayed by Telefonica are products created by Numoda's patented Mobile Application Engine (MAE (1) (Metropolitan Area Exchange) Originally known as Metropolitan Area Ethernets, MAEs are junction points on the Internet where data is exchanged between carriers. See IXP and NAP. ). They include CRM (Customer Relationship Management) An integrated information system that is used to plan, schedule and control the presales and postsales activities in an organization. , Sales Force Automation Automating the sales activities within an organization. A comprehensive SFA package provides such functions as contact management, note and information sharing, quick proposal and presentation generation, product configurators, calendars and to-do lists.  (SFA), manufacturing, clinical trials, insurance and a suite of health care applications.

The Numoda wireless applications displayed by Telefonica have a proven track record of creating remarkable efficiencies in business processes by eliminating data entry while speeding time to revenue. For example, the Numoda life insurance application reduced a life insurance billing cycle from 28 days to less than a week.

To WAP or not to WAP

"We are not anti-WAP, per se, however Numoda's applications run live on the handheld device when not connected to the wireless network. This allows for faster response to the user, and no work interruptions when a wireless connection is not easily available. In fact, the Numoda service enables clients to do many things that were not possible before," said Jack Houriet, CTO, Numoda Corporation.

What further differentiates Numoda in the wireless space is that information from the database is not only easily pushed down to the handheld, but that Numoda technologies collect data from the field and integrate this data into the client database.

This ability to collect and integrate data extends far beyond ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network.  compliant databases and into ancient legacy systems, a field once reserved for computer giants. In addition, Numoda technology runs with equal efficiency over a multitude of wireless networks, including CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. , TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). , GSM, CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) A low-speed, digital, wireless data network that is an enhancement to an existing analog cellular network. Based on IBM's CelluPlan II, CDPD provides a packet overlay onto the AMPS network and moves data at 19. , and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations. .

"Numoda is delighted to partner with Telefonica, they clearly understand the value of offering an expanded product line including data services to their clients," said Mary Schaheen, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Numoda Corporation. "In turn, their clients clearly relate to the guaranteed ROIs for their businesses," she added.
