In the late 1990's, the S-3B's mission focus shifted to surface warfare and aerial refueling. on a refueling mission with VS-32 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During the flight an environmental control system compartment fire caused the loss of the main hydraulic system and nearly all flight-related electrical systems, but Cdr. Carlson was able to perform a 185 mph, nighttime, no-flap visual landing on board Theodore Roosevelt (CVN (Card Verification Number) See CSC. 71). |
