The CDMA technology enables you to increase over narrowband multiple access wireless technologies. The real cell coverage areas are highly irregular at times. The base stations and mobile stations communicate by a negotiation upon call origination. Then the movement of mobile is detected and then another base station takes up the service and is then passed on to another.

This technology has a high capacity as it uses noise-like waves. Multiple users utilize each CDMA carrier frequency which makes frequency reuse a universal phenomenon. Initially, the concept of CDMA was discarded as it was taken to be unworkable in mobile radio environment due to the near-far problem, because of the spread spectrum. Te transmitters here can be controlled such that the received powers are all equal. This makes the benefits of spreading realized easily.

The voice coding used in CDMA is standardized separately as a service option. The various standards operate in the nominal 9600 bps rate set, generally. As the required transmitting powers of the CDMA mobile phones increase on approaching the capacity pole, mobile coverage tends to run out. This in turn leads to system load resulting in coverage failures associated with the CDMA technology. This somehow is troublesome for the CDMA mobile phone users and is taken into consideration.

CDMA phones differ from the GSM phones in the sense that, it enables you to make use of only one type of connection and leaves you with no other option of changing your network service provider. This at times creates a problem for the users who change their mobile phones quite frequently. Every time they change their CDMA phones, they have to change their phone numbers too. This makes it difficult for the business men and other people who use their phones to a greater extent.

CDMA users can make use of web browsing, m-commerce, MMS, streaming videos, games and e-mail, as this technology provides them with various applications and data services too. It also delivers high speed data and supports multiple application platforms, including java. It also provides with traffic updates, navigation and tracking. This enables you to locate the nearest or your most favourite restaurant, shop, theatre and what not. It also offers 'push to talk' facilities that doesn't require dial-up but just needs pushing a button and simply beginning to speak, that is offering two way voice and data sessions. It also offers graphics, pictures, video or even music attachment abilities to text messages, sent to mobile devices as well as computers.

CDMA mobile users have national as well as international roaming services enabled, which enables you to talk or even share documents on the go.
